Boast In God and Magnify Him

4 Mins read

Psalms 34:1–3 (NKJV) 1 I will bless the LORD at all times;

His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2 My soul shall make its boast in the LORD;

The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me,

And let us exalt His name together.

Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:19 that, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” “And my God” — what did he mean? To answer this question, let’s examine what “my” signifies.

“My” is used as:

– Possessive — It shows ownership by the speaker, e.g., “My Bible,” “my shoes,” or “My parrot is very friendly,” and “I love my new car.”

– Personal Reference — It is used as part of self-description, for example, “My name is…” or “I love my new car.”

– Exclamation — It is used to express surprise, shock, or awe (often as “Oh my!”). or “My, that’s a big rat!”

– Identity — “My” can also refer to something belonging to the speaker in a broader sense, like “my decision.”

Therefore, “My” is a possessive determiner indicating that something belongs to the speaker (e.g., “my plot”), a pronoun for self-reference (e.g., “that’s mine”), or an exclamation of surprise, often short for “Oh my God”. It is a common, fundamental word in English used to express ownership or identity, with its meaning shifting slightly depending on the context, from a simple adjective to an emotional outburst or self-reference.

Thus, “and my God” means that the Apostle Paul was identifying himself with God and demonstrating how personal God was to him.

Then, the question is, how do you identify yourself with God and show how personal He is to you? This is achieved by learning and understanding how to boast in the Lord God. The Psalmist in Psalm 34 says, “My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad.” And “Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.” (Psalm 34:2–3)

Boasting and magnifying the Lord God alongside the psalmist. You boast and magnify the Lord God by declaring who He is to you. That is “God is my……” or “The Lord is my……”
