Fathers Do You Know This?

10 Mins read

I think you know. I thank God you know. There is an inheritance fathers pass on to their children conscious or unconscious. Who is your father?

Types of Fathers

We have different types of fathers you can be under. You must be under three of them in this life.  Firstly, we have God the Creator as a Father. God is the source and sustainer of all other fatherhood. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. (Matthew 23:9) Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, “I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.”‘ (John 20:17). Secondly, we have the devil as a father. The devil is also a father—the father of lies. If he is a father know that he has children. Because there is no father without children. Let me ask you, (whispering to your ear) “Is the devil your father? You are of your father the devil and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his resources, for he is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44). Thirdly, we have your biological father. This is the one who naturally births you. Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old (Proverbs 23:22). Fourthly, the spiritual father. this is the one who led you to the faith you stand in. He may not have led you to faith, but he feeds you on God’s word every Sunday or now and then. He is a spiritual figure who acts like a “physical guardian”. He takes over the responsibilities of a spiritual father from the person who leads to the faith you stand in i.e. to accept Jesus as your Lord. Now he is your spiritual father. For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus, I have begotten you through the gospel (1 Corinthians 4:15). Lastly, a guardian is a person who did not conceive you, but he brought you up. He stepped in the shoes of your father and fulfilled all the responsibilities of a father in your life.

Obey Your Parents

The mystery of being under three fathers. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:1–3). “Obey your parents” children are commanded to obey their parents in the Lord. Why? Because this is right. Here we have “parents”. This may be both biological and spiritual. Parents in the Lord speaks of a spiritual parent. Spiritual parents or fathers are the ones who introduce you to the faith you are standing in. Your biological parents can be your spiritual parents too. If they are the ones who introduced, you to the faith you stand in and nourished or feeds you to become strong in that faith.

“In the Lord”. Lord speaks of God the creator. God the source and sustainer of all fatherhood.

You must be obedient to your father who is in the Lord. You are obedient to a father who is obedient to his creator. So, the obedience of your spiritual and biological father to the Lord; Makes you to be obedient to them and to their lord—who is your creator. Thus, you become obedient to your biological father, your spiritual father, and God the Father (who is your creator). You are under the influence of three fathers — God the Father, spiritual father and biological father or father figure.

Honour Your Parents

In Ephesians 6:2–3, “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth”. Here the bible is talking about biological parents. Your father who begot you. The father who brought you up. The biological and first-figure father in your life. Here the bible says, honour him.  Why honour them? “It is the first commandment with promise. What is the promise? “That it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.” Showing honour to your parents doesn’t have any condition. Whether they are in the Lord or not you have to honour them. Honouring your parents is a command from God. You can be under your biological father, spiritual father and God the Father who is your creator; or you can be under your biological father, spiritual father and Devil as a father.

The Fatherhood of God & The Fatherhood of the Devil

You can be under the Fatherhood of God or the Fatherhood of the devil. God is the only true source and sustainer of true fatherhood. The devil is a liar and tries to copycat. You only know under which type of fatherhood you are under by the desires you want to fulfil, or you fulfil.

The desires of Fatherhood of God. When you imitate and follow the fatherhood of God, you behave like God in all your dealings. For God is love. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love and we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him (1 John 4:8,16). I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh but if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law, but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such, there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:16,18,22–25)

The desires of Fatherhood of the devil. When you follow and imitate the fatherhood of the devil. You will behave like the devil. For the devil is a murderer from the beginning and the father of lies. His native language is lying. You are of your father the devil and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44). Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19–21).

Who is a father?

Father is the source and sustainer. Every father must have a child. It is because of a child or children that a man is given the title of Father. Thus, fatherhood is as a result of siring a child or children, adopting a child or children, or bringing up a child or children – (being a guardian). Every father is a man. You can’t be a boy or feminine gender and call yourself a father. A father is not a title you impart on yourself. This is because this title comes with responsibilities. Those you are responsible for will automatically give you that title—father. Behind the success or failure of a child is a father or father figure. When Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?” And Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I do not know.” So, the king said, “Inquire whose son this young man is.” Then, as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. And Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, young man?” So, David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.” (I Samuel 17:55–58)

In the life of each child, there is a sit for the mother and there is a sit for the father. I will handle today about the father. The mother is reserved for another day. Fathers, do you know you have a sit in the life of your child or children? Now whether you know it or not, the chair is there.

Fathers, do you know you are speaking in the life of your child? When you are present you are speaking. When you are absent, you are still speaking. Absence is a voice. It’s a destructive voice in the life of the child. So, fathers whether you are absent or present your voice in being heard in the life of your child. Therefore, decide now, which of your voices will be heard in the life of your child. The active vocal voice or the destructive absence voice.

Behind every victory and failure of a child is the father. From 1 Samuel 17 above. When Soul saw David approaching Goliath. He asked, “Abner, the commander of the army Abner, whose son is this youth?” And Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I do not know. In other words, King Soul was saying, this is the courage and determination of his father, not this youth. When King Saul saw David approaching the Philistines, he saw what his army did not see. He didn’t see David alone. But he saw Jesse the father. If he could have seen David only, he would have asked, “what is the name of that youth?” But instead, he asked, “Whose son is this youth?” In other words, “what is the name of his father?”.

Therefore, behind every success and failure of a son (now keep in mind it is the son/daughter but not a child). There is a father or father figure. When David was approaching the Philistines was a youth. Saul asked, “Abner, the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?” But when he came from the slaughter of the Philistines he had graduated to young man. Saul asked, “Whose son are you, young man?” So, David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.” You are still an unknown son/ daughter because the father in you has not risen to the challenge before you, to make you graduate into a young man or young woman.

In every male child, there is a father or father figure inside him. But how is this possible? For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. (Matthew 10:20). Every father has a spirit: Every father has a spirit that is operating in him. This spirit is the one that sustains and makes him. But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding (Job 32:8). Every father is a man. In Job, 32:8 above says, “There is a spirit in man”. This “spirit in man”. He —man— imparts on his child or children. Every father’s image must be reflected in the child. How? and why? This is because the “spirit in man” finds expression in the child. Matthew 10:20 says, “For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. “The spirit of man — (human father) that he imparts to his child or children is from his source and sustainer—from his father. If your human father i.e. spiritual or biological, is a worshipper of a true God; the spirit he imparts is from the true God— his source and sustainer. If he is not a worshipper of the true God, what he imparts in the child, or children is from the devil—his source and sustainer. Here the devil represents all the kingdom of darkness and their practices. Now this spirit from the Father that he imparts to the child or children, becomes their spirit. The child inherits it and possesses it as his own spirit. Thus, physically, and spiritually the child starts behaving like his father. Spiritually the child behaves like God or the devil. Physically the child starts behaving like the biological father or guardian or that male figure in their lives. This spirit the child inherits from the father becomes his/her spirit. “But there is a spirit in man”. Now this spirit that is in man—man here is now the child; receives information from its source and gives the child understanding. Job 32:8b says “The inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding”. The inspiration of the almighty is the spirit you have inherited from your father. So, you are like the source of the spirit in you. The understanding you receive is from the source from which the spirit you inherited from your father came from.

Ponder over these questions and answer them correctly.

1. Who is your father?

2. Who is your spiritual father?

3. What is the source of the spirit of your father?

4. What have you inherited from your father that gives you an edge over others?

5. What have you inherited from your father that caused you to be disadvantaged in life?

Fathers here are questions to ponder.

1. Are you the first father figure to your child or children?

2. Which image does your child have of you?

3. When your child succeeds, “can people see you inside him/her?

4. Which type of inheritance have you given to your child? Demonic? Or Godly?

5. Which of your voices is speaking in the life of your child? Negative vocal voice? Positive vocal voice? Destructive absence or silent voice?

6. How many times have you contributed to the downfall of your children?

Two challenges to the fathers

1. Be humble enough and sit down with your children and lovingly ask them to give you the true picture they have for you. (Many of us will be astonished)

2. Examine the source and sustainer of your life. Then evaluate which spiritual inheritance or deposit you are giving to your children from your life.

Keep this in mind that you are like your father because of the spirit he has imparted in you. This is the spirit and anointing in you and upon you. This is why you are walking in steps of your Father, despite how you struggle not to. What is in you is what made your father to be the way he is. The spirit in your father finds expression through you when you speak and act; then this spirit gives you wisdom and understanding. Father, whether you are present or absent you are speaking in the life of your child.
