Walk in Christ

5 Mins read

Babies will always be nervous about walking alone at that tender age; they will need someone by their side holding their hands tightly and firmly because they believe in that person. They walk with all their full courage, knowing that there is protection and security with them and nothing can harm them at all. Can we also implement this kind of walking by faith and not by sight in our walk with Christ as Christians? To walk in Christ is to live a life patterned after His. This means that our lifestyle habits, thinking, and character should be of Christ. In a Christ-centred life, everything revolving around us should be seen as in Christ. Walking in obedience to His voice, adhering to His Word, abidance to His Ways, keeping His commands, observing the deeds and submission, this is now our walk-in Christ not from Christ or away from Him. This will lead us to eternity, where all of us are eagerly anticipating and waiting for. Yes, we understand that this walk is not easy, but we are encouraged to hold on to Him till the end. He promised never to live nor forsake us and be with us until the end of the age. Now, like tiny babies, we have to hold on to Christ and walking worthy before Him. His eyes are on us. So how do we walk in Christ in our daily conduct to align with the Word?

Walking in Newness of Life

If in Christ we died the old man being taken, that’s the Adamic nature being crucified, and we’re buried with Him, we have His resurrection that’s the new man in us. There is a new quality and character to our lives, a new principle of life. This speaks of our regeneration, where sin describes the old life while righteousness describes the new life.

Walking in the Spirit

This is the progress as a believer submits to the Spirit’s leading over their lives entirely. All believers have the presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit as the personal power of living to please God, submitting to the Spirit control that responds in obedience to the scripture’s simple commands, which leads to our spontaneous and spiritual growth. We are not to walk according to the flesh that is becoming an enemy with God because we will desire to gratify the body with the things of this world. Loving the world is becoming an enemy of God. We can only be fruitful and productive in the kingdom of God if we walk in the Spirit. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must do so in truth and Spirit. To be carnally minded is to be spiritually dead! You will manifest the fruit you produce in your own life. Galatians 5:22-25.

Walking Properly

This is living a life pleasing to God. You can only do so if your purpose is not to please men and not receiving their honours but only God. We should manifest in our outward behaviour the inner reality of a redeemed life. If we walk in the wicked and crooked ways, our lives will always be exposed if not here on earth, then in heaven on judgment day. Nothing will be hidden, and the recorded books shall be opened, which means every minute detail of our lives will lay bare. We have to walk properly in this life. Everything will be exposed! Walk worthy of God and please God alone!

Walking Worthy of the Calling which you are Called

This is daily conduct of living to match one’s position in Christ. Every one of us has a calling, and we have to work on it because we shall be held accountable on that day. We are just stewarding; hence our high and holy calling should be used wisely and godly to edify the body of Christ. You have a choice of denying the call or accepting it, but an account is required of you in the end. The Lord who has promised to walk with us will always empower us. Let’s, therefore, do the work we were called to do while here on earth when it’s not too late for us to cry. We are to be obedient and responsible for our calling. Rewards will be given to them that walked according to their calling and endured fighting the good fight, and now they have finished the race.

Walking in Love

The Lord is the supreme example in His self-sacrificing love for lost sinners. We are to be imitators of His great love in the newness power of the Holy Spirit, who enables us to demonstrate divine love to others. When the love of Christ abides in us, we will be able to walk in love. Love casts out all fears, and it only does that if we are saturated with God’s true and unconditional love. Love that has no partiality, not evil, not keeping records of evil, not paying back, not envious, does not parade itself, it’s not puffed up, does not behave rudely, does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. How can we say that we love God whom we haven’t seen and hated the one made in God’s image? We need to walk in love by expressing our love for God and our neighbours.

Walking in Light

Darkness describes the character of the unconverted life as void of truth and virtue in intellectual and moral matters. The realm of darkness is presided over by the power of darkness who rules those headed for eternal darkness. Tragically sinners love darkness. But here, we are commanded to walk in the light. Darkness and light will never have a relationship. Genuine Christians walk habitually in the light that’s truth, not the darkness that’s sin and falsehood. Walking in Christ is walking in the light.

Be obedient to the truth and develop a habit in our lives that matches the truth of God’s Word. Let our walk matches our talk, and our reputation for practicing what we teach and preach should be exemplary. Let’s continue walking in Christ and walking in the truth. If we do this, we shall know the truth, and the truth will set us free, and we shall be free indeed!

Walking in an Orderly Manner

This is a very serious matter when it comes to Christianity. Some hide in a cocoon and shell of laziness and laxity, but Paul reminds us in 2Thessalonians 3:11 idleness is not tolerated in the kingdom of God. God has promised to bless the works of our hands. Paul was a tentmaker; hence we can also learn to put our hands on the plow and work. Busybodies Christians, spectators, and idlers are not allowed in the Kingdom of God.

PONDER ON THIS – Have I been walking with Christ? Is my life ordered by Christ? Am I walking in the newness of life? Am I walking in truth? Am I walking in love? Am I walking in the light?

SCRIPTURES

Ephesians 5:8 – For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.

Galatians 5:16- I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

QUOTATIONS:

  • “When we walk in carnality, we kill our spirituality.”- Maxmiller Naliaka
  • “Believers keep up and maintain their walk with God by secret prayer. The spirit of grace is always accompanied with the spirit of supplication. It is the very breath of the new creature, the fan of the divine life, whereby the spark of holy fire, kindled in the soul by God, is not only kept in, but raised into a flame.” – George Whitefield
  • “Light and darkness will never have a relationship.” – Maxmiller Naliaka
  • “Let our walk match our talk.” – Maxmiller Naliaka

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word that is light in our lives. Thank You for speaking to us and letting us know that we should always walk in Christ. Jesus Christ, you are the true way, and in You, there’s no darkness. Give us the desire to walk in truth, walk in the Spirit, walk in love, walk in wisdom, walk worthy of our calling and walk in newness of life; this is our humble cry daily. Lord, help us that we shall have a clear understanding of what you want from us when we faithfully and obediently walk with you and in You, Lord. May the Holy Spirit of God lead us and teach us to walk daily. In Jesus’s name, we pray Amen.
