“You will also declare a thing, and it will be established…” (Job 22:28, NKJV)
In one’s life, so many things define the future. The past can define your future. The present can define your future. People can define your future. Events can define your future. Situations can define your future. Pain can define your future. May ask you again ” What defines your future?”.
Job 22:28 above shows that the future is created. It shows how the future is created. The Bible says, “You will also declare a thing, and it will be established…”. The establishment of anything you want to do is done by your mouth. For anything to be established, you have to speak it out. If there is no speaking, there is no establishment. The establishment of anything you want to do is done by declaration. What you have been speaking or can I say it the other way, what you have been declaring is what’s controlling you and your future.
In the Bible, there are many examples of this. Let’s look at one example in the old testament.
” Now his daughter-in-law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, due to be delivered; and when she heard the news that the ark of God was captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth, for her labour pains came upon her. And about the time of her death, the women who stood by her said to her, “Do not fear, for you have borne a son.” But she did not answer, nor did she regard it. Then she named the child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel!” because the ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband.” – (1 Samuel 4:19–21)
There was this woman in the Old Testament, who was about to give birth. She had just heard that the Ark of the Covenant which housed God’s presence had been captured by the Philistines. She was so upset about it that she named her baby boy Ichabod, which means “the glory has departed.” Notice what she did; she named her future by what was happening in her present. She could have just as easily named him “the glory will return,” but she was so focused on the negative, so caught up in where she was at that moment, that she defined her future by it.
This is the case with many people. What you focus on so much, will definitely define your future. Whether your focus is positive or negative. What you focus on will define your future negatively or positively. When you focus on the negative side of things and keep declaring them, they negatively define your future life. But when you focus on the positive side of things and start declaring them, they define your future life positively. Your focus and declaration define your future.
Friend don’t ever name your future by your present-day circumstances. You may have had some hard times in the past, but get that “Ichabod” spirit off of you. It may look like you’re stuck in a rut and you don’t really see how you could ever rise any higher, but don’t speak defeat over your life. Instead, name your future: blessed, prosperous, successful, victorious, healthy, whole, strong, talented, creative, wise. Declare what God’s Word says so that you can move forward in the destiny He has prepared for you!
Keep in mind your future or the future is in your hands. How you define it, that is how it will be!
Remember that in Numbers 14:28, God says that he only does what you say. Therefore be careful with what you speak and keep on speaking. You are held responsible for every word you speak. The words you speak matter a lot. They may not be a concern to you when you speak then. Nite this down that, they are established concerning the situation you spoke and God banks on them to answer you. Your future is defined by those words you speak.
Prayer & Meditation
Father, thank You for the good future that You have prepared for me. Today I choose to come into agreement with Your Word and speak Your blessing over my life. Keep me close to You and show me Your ways in Jesus’ name! Amen.
